Overview

Dame Margaret Price, who died on January 28, was a much loved and familiar voice at Wigmore Hall over a period of 40 years, giving numerous recitals accompanied by Geoffrey Parsons and Graham Johnson. She honoured us by presiding over the re-opening of Wigmore Hall after its comprehensive refurbishment in 2004 and unveiled a commemorative plaque, now displayed in the foyer. Dame Margaret was the embodiment of what Wigmore Hall represents, in terms of the quality, beauty and world-renown of her musicianship, and will be sorely missed by all those who were fortunate to hear and meet her.

Our Wigmore Hall Live recording of her feted 1987 debut recital is a rare live recording of Dame Margaret Price, accompanied by the late Geoffrey Parsons. This concert celebrated 25 years on stage for Price and was described by the Guardian critic as ‘One of the most thrilling performances I have ever seen’. The programme is a selection of songs by Schubert, Mahler and Strauss, all beautifully performed, as one would expect.
