Overview

The Dutch bass-baritone Robert Holl is one of the greatest Lieder singers of our time.A regular visitor to Wigmore Hall,

The Times has described Holl as “the living archetype — apotheosis, even — of the Lieder singer. So deeply is word and music assimilated, so generously is the whole of the performing self communicated, that the result is a formidable and deeply moving virtuosity of imagination and craft.”

In this recital, Holl sings Schumann’s Liederkreis op.39, Hans Erich Pfitzner’s Four Songs Op.32 and the Brahms Vier ernste Gesänge Op.121 (Four Serious Songs), followed by three encores – Brahms’s Feldeinsamkeit and two Schumann songs from Myrthen op.25, Fresinn Op.25 No.2 and Lieder aus dem Schenkenbuch im Divan Op.25 No.5.
