Composed in 1823 and 1827 respectively, Schubert’s narrative cycles offer two of the greatest experiences in the entire Lieder repertoire, their sequences of songs charting stories of the pain of rejection and its impact on a sensitive spirit, with the looser, posthumously compiled collection Schwanengesang providing a moving envoi.

All three will be performed in the 2019/20 Season by Mark Padmore, accompanied by Kristian Bezuidenhout on fortepiano.
