Resident Piano and Instrument Hire
Use of Resident Piano and Tuning
The Hall will provide a Steinway model D grand piano tuned to A440. If a piano other than the Hall’s resident piano is required the Hall must be informed at least two months before the concert, in which case rental, transport and other related costs (including insurance) will be the responsibility of the promoter. The choice of transport company is subject to approval by the Hall Management.
Please note that it may be necessary for the Hall’s resident piano to remain at the back of the stage when it is not being used for a performance. In exceptional circumstances the piano can be removed from the stage by prior arrangement with the Hall Management, at a charge of £50 plus VAT. Piano moves may only be carried out by Wigmore Hall staff.
The piano is tuned before every performance for which it is required. (For costs of tuning please see Addendum A of the Hire Contract.) Arrangements can be made, at an additional charge, for a tuner to be in attendance at a concert (advisable if a concert is to be broadcast or recorded).
This, and any other technical requirements, should be requested in writing no later than one month prior to the concert date.
Hire of Instruments
Pianos, Harpsichords, Chamber Organs, etc.
If a different piano or any other keyboard instrument is required, it is the responsibility of the promoter to make the necessary arrangements and notify the Hall’s Management Office.
The Hall can recommend instrument suppliers.
Please note that firms supplying instruments must:
- Provide sufficient manpower to move them in and out of the Hall and on to the stage efficiently and safely. For insurance reasons, Wigmore Hall staff members cannot assist with moving hired instruments.
- Ensure that proper arrangements for access to the Hall for delivery and collection are made well in advance with the Hall Management. Any damage caused will be deemed the responsibility of the Licensee and will be charged to the account.
Storage of Instruments and Equipment
Instruments, especially harpsichords and organs, etc. should be removed immediately after the event. If not, the Hall Management reserves the right to make a storage charge of up to £60 plus VAT per day.
Please note that all instruments, equipment, and personal belongings are brought into the Hall at the owner’s risk.
