Schumann Quartet

This event was streamed live from Wigmore Hall on Friday 16 October 2020

Mendelssohn’s E minor quartet, completed during the composer’s honeymoon in the Black Forest in 1837, veers between extreme turbulence and captivating lyricism and includes a delightful Scherzo in his unique Midsummer Night's Dream style. The Schumann Quartet pairs it with the first of Beethoven’s set dedicated to the Russian ambassador to Vienna, with its variations on a Russian theme.
