Wigmore Hall is launching an Academy of French Song: The French Song Exchange, in partnership with the École Normale de Musique de Paris.
The French Song Exchange has been devised by François le Roux and Dame Felicity Lott, with Wigmore Hall’s Director John Gilhooly. François and Dame Felicity described the premise of the Song Academy as follows:
"We are very excited about this new venture and would welcome nominations from the music colleges and conservatoires, as well as applications from students themselves. We will hold auditions in Paris (17 & 18 September 2018) and London (20 & 21 September 2018), and four singers from each country will be selected. They will each receive four separate weeks of intensive coaching throughout the year, two weeks with François and two weeks with Felicity
For the audition, we ask the singers to prepare two Mélodies: one classical style, Berlioz to Fauré, and one Debussy to Poulenc. The coaching will take place in London and Paris (during the 18/19 season) and at the end of the year there will be the opportunity of shared showcase recitals at Wigmore Hall and at the Salle Cortot in Paris.
We are looking forward to exploring French poetry and French song together with a new generation of recitalists."
