We are delighted to welcome Vijay Iyer to Wigmore Hall for a Jazz Residency.
The Grammy-nominated musician, born in New York in 1971, has been described by Los Angeles Weekly as ‘a boundless and deeply important young star’, and by the Guardian as being ‘at a dizzying pinnacle of contemporary jazz multitasking’, verdicts reinforced by a string of awards and five-star reviews.
In January Vijay is joined by his hero, friend and teacher, trumpeter Wadada Leo Smith. The duo recently recorded an album entitled ‘A Cosmic Rhythm with Each Stroke’ from which their concert will draw its inspiration. Prior to this concert Vijay Iyer will discuss his residency and life as a performer with journalist and broadcaster Kevin LeGendre.
Vijay returns to Wigmore Hall in July with the Vijay Iyer Trio, praised as ‘the great new jazz piano trio’ by The New York Times. Booking for this event opens on Tuesday 7 February. An additional performance will take place in October 2017.
