‘On Chesil Beach’ features Wigmore Hall

Wigmore Hall will feature in a major new film adaptation of Ian McEwan’s acclaimed novella On Chesil Beach, starring Saoirse Ronan and Billy Howle, and directed by Dominic Cooke.

Released in cinemas nationwide on 18 May, On Chesil Beach is set in the early 1960s and tells the story of Edward Mayhew, a graduate historian, and Florence Ponting, the lead violinist of a string quartet with aspirations of performing at Wigmore Hall.

John Gilhooly, Director of Wigmore Hall, said “Ian McEwan’s story contains a number of important scenes which take place at Wigmore Hall, and so I was delighted that filming could happen here. I am very pleased that this new film will showcase Ian’s novella and will feature the Hall, especially as Ian is a regular audience member here.”
