Roger Vignoles is the pianist behind an exciting series featuring the songs of Richard Strauss, including such acclaimed Strauss singers as Marlis Petersen, Dorothea Röschmann, Andrew Kennedy, Anne Schwanewilms and Christopher Maltman.
Edward Seckerson and Roger Vignoles discuss the meaning of the word ‘collaborator’ and the stigma attached to being described as an ‘accompanist’; what makes a great Lieder Singer; Strauss’s poets, and his relationships with his publishers.
Although Strauss wrote over two hundred songs, barely a dozen are well known to the public at large. In addition to this live series at Wigmore Hall, Roger Vignoles is in the process of curating and recording a Strauss: Complete Songs series on Hyperion Records - currently on its fourth volume, the series explores the hidden gems of this repertoire as well as featuring matchless versions of the more famous songs. Curated and performed by Roger Vignoles, the series features a tantalising selection of great Straussian singers.
