They are drawn from people who have a deep love of the string quartet and would like to support Wigmore Hall’s continuing commitment to this art form, as well as those passionate about supporting some of the best young artists currently emerging onto the international stage.

Wigmore Hall believes strongly in supporting talented young artists at the start of their careers. The Wigmore Hall International String Quartet Competition provides a vital public platform from which young musicians can break into the world of professional performance at the highest level.

"Winning First Prize at the WHISQC has allowed us to fulfil our dreams of performing chamber music, by helping us develop musically and artistically through different concert experiences and residencies." Esmé Quartet (winner in 2018)

The value of the Competition to prize-winning quartets is enormous, as it provides unique professional development opportunities in addition to cash prizes, such as:

  • High-level coaching and training
  • Prestigious recital engagements in the UK and USA
  • Recordings and residencies

How your gift can help

  • One donation of £2,000 per year for 3 years would fully fund all travel and accommodation for the winner’s post-Competition tour
  • A donation of £1,000 per year for 3 years would enable the winner to make a professional CD recording
  • Five donations of £300 per year for 3 years would make a significant contribution towards the costs of coaching with top chamber musicians for winners and other participants
