Overview

Jean-Guihen Queyras and Alexander Melnikov launch their two-concert survey of Beethoven’s complete sonatas and variations for cello and piano.

The composer made a strikingly assured venture into a genre that was still in its infancy when he penned his two cello sonatas Op. 5 during a triumphant visit to Berlin in 1796, one of the happiest periods in a life all too often marked by suffering and setbacks.
