Overview
Haydn, present at the first performance of Beethoven’s three Op. 1 Piano Trios in 1795, was reported to be surprised that the set’s C minor work was ‘so rapidly and easily grasped, and so favourably taken up by the public’.
Trio Mondrian explores the composition’s emotional extremes in company with the formal perfection and compelling energy of Brahms’s Second Piano Trio.
