Overview
Llŷr Williams charts the evolution of Beethoven’s music in this recital, opening with the strikingly different characters of the composer’s early Op. 14 piano sonatas, the former full of bold dramatic contrasts, the latter praised by the critic and scholar Donald Tovey as ‘an exquisite little work’.
The improvisatory Fantasia in G minor, perhaps inspired by Bach, prepares the atmosphere for Beethoven’s radical Op. 27 piano sonatas.
