Emily Howard’s Afference, inspired by the flow of signals between body and brain, provides the pulsating opening to the Elias String Quartet’s BBC Lunchtime recital.

The ensemble is joined by Simon Crawford-Phillips in Schumann’s Piano Quintet, another work of great energy and vitality, among the finest pieces created during the composer’s year-long immersion in chamber music in 1842.
