    Haydn’s piano trios delivered great worksto a buoyant market, one supported byaccomplished amateur players and aristocraticconsumers.

    The composer, as ever, developedthe genre, notably through the keyboardvirtuosity present in the Piano Trio in B flat andthe irresistible Hungarian melodies that givethe ‘Gypsy Rondo’ its name. Dvořák’s lyricalPiano Trio in B flat, with its contemplativeslow movement, completes the Eggner Trio’sseductive programme.
