Since he was plucked from the stage of Ronnie Scott’s to join the seminal Miles Davis band of the late 1960s, Holland has been a major force in today’s jazz, whether with his cohorts from that time – Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette – in collaborations that stretch from Hank Jones to Sam Rivers – or, most significantly, as composer, bandleader, and inspirational teacher.
