Overview

Daniil Trifonov partners Gidon Kremer in Mieczysław Weinberg’s rarely heard Fifth Violin Sonata, written shortly after the persecuted composer’s release from Moscow’s notorious Lubyanka prison in 1953 and dedicated to his close friend Dmitry Shostakovich.

The duo is joined in the second half by Lithuanian cellist Giedre Dirvanauskaite to perform Rachmaninov’s Trio élégiaque No. 2, the composer’s response to the death of his friend and mentor Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky in 1893.
