    Overview

Music by Mendelssohn makes up the first half: a newchamber version of the familiar A Midsummer Night’sDream Overture, and the darkly serious Second PianoTrio.

After the interval the Italians take over, with LuigiDallapiccola’s poetic ‘Little Night Music’ and LucianoBerio’s exuberant makeovers of Folk Songs fromaround the globe – anticipated in the pre-concertevent by folk music in its natural state.

As a taster of the Folk Songs to be performed by the Nash Ensemble and Christine Rice in this concert, watch a video of Elīna Garanča sing Berio's Azerbaijan Love Song.
