Bach extended the techniques of violinplaying in his works for the instrument andbroadened its possibilities in pursuit ofpreviously unimagined creative goals.

Isabelle Faust places the composer’s SonataNo. 2 in A minor, which conjures up theimpression of four-part counterpoint from asingle instrument, together with three of hissonatas for violin and keyboard, and theViolin Sonata in G BWV1021, in whichacclaimed early keyboard player KristianBezuidenhout will improvise the harmoniesfrom Bach’s figured bass line.
