Overview

The world of Greek myth, of gods and mortals,is brought to life in the first of two all-Schubertrecitals.

Hector’s moving farewell to his wife andson precedes the bloody battles recounted byHomer in The Iliad. Schiller transposed the sceneto the eve of the Trojan hero’s ill-fated duel withAchilles in his ‘Hektors Abschied’, the dramaticmoment enhanced by the noble dignity ofSchubert’s setting.
