    Overview

    The Zemlinsky Quartet opens this recital withBeethoven’s Op. 18 No. 1, influenced by thecomposer’s close study of quartets by Haydn andMozart.

    While Josef Suk, a founder member of thefamous Bohemian Quartet, sounds echoes ofDvořák and Brahms in his First String Quartet of1896, this early work catches the ear with itsstriking individuality and adventurous spirit.
