    Overview

One of the iconic landmarks of piano literature, the Beethoven Sonatas trace the immensemusical and spiritual journey of the composer’screative life.

Whilst his own performancesof them were largely confined to the elitearistocratic salons of Vienna, allowing himto disregard the commercial pressures ofthe day and write some of his most deeplypersonal music, Beethoven’s Piano Sonatassoon became central to concert life, and towider domestic music making, presenting anendlessly fascinating interpretative challengeboth to the enthusiastic amateur and tothe greatest pianists of each generation.

Come and explore Beethoven’s world inthree afternoons hosted by the composerJulian Philips alongside pianist Laura Robertsand student performers from theGuildhall School of Music & Drama.
