    Overview

    Smetana and Dvořák were pioneers of Czech musicwhen their homeland fell under Austro-Hungarianrule. Their works helped shape a distinctive nationalcultural identity and attracted worldwide interest.

    The Dover Quartet, winner of the 2013 BanffInternational String Quartet Competition, pairsDvořák’s String Quartet in F Op. 96 with Smetana’sautobiographical String Quartet No. 1 in E minor.
