    Overview

    John Adams wrote his Second String Quartet for theSt. Lawrence String Quartet, which gave its worldpremière at Stanford, California in January 2015.

    The ensemble introduces the Beethoven-inspiredwork to the UK in this recital, framed by two ofHaydn’s path-breaking Op. 20 quartets and Janáček’stempestuous String Quartet No. 1, inspired byLeo Tolstoy’s novella The Kreutzer Sonata.
