Overview
Come and immerse yourself in the immenselyrich world of French chamber music.
Fromthe mid-nineteenth century onwards, Frenchcomposers produced a vast array of masterpieceswithin this genre, ranging in style fromthe Wagnerism of César Franck’s Piano Quintet, the Viennese inspiration of piano trios bySaint-Saëns, the modal harmonies of Fauré’schamber music, the neo-classical elegance ofworks by Debussy and Ravel, and the wit andpathos of late woodwind sonatas by Poulenc,to the unique musical language of OlivierMessiaen in his Quatuor pour la fin du temps.
These afternoons are hosted by composerJulian Philips with pianist Laura Roberts, alongside invited guest speakers and studentsfrom the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
