T. A. Hoffmann’s novel of the same name and a tribute to its central character (Kreisler, the witty, wild, eccentric conductor). Sandrin concludes the recital with Schumann’s Gesänge der Frühe, among the composer’s last compositions, which speaks of his inexhaustible visionary creative powers.
