Anthony Marwood, the Heath Quartetand three other wonderful chambermusicians open with Mendelssohn’sOctet, a miraculous product of hismid-teens.
Enescu’s fine StringOctet also dates from the Romaniancomposer’s teenage years. ‘I woremyself out trying to make work apiece of music divided into foursegments of such length that eachof them was likely at any moment tobreak’, Enescu later recalled.
