Overview

The recipient of the Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artist Award in 2016, Clare Hammond has been acclaimed as a pianist of ‘amazing power and panache’ (The Telegraph). Her lunchtime recital includes Szymanowski’s second set of piano variations from his time studying in Warsaw, completed in 1904, the theme of which is taken from Jan Kleczyński’s work O muzyce podhalańskiej (‘On the Music of Podhale’). It is followed by a selection of studies by French composer Hélène de Montgeroult and Rachmaninov’s second piano sonata, revised in 1931 when the composer thought the original had too much in it that was ‘superfluous’.
