Overview

Irish tenor Robin Tritschler and Grammy-award winning pianist Christopher Glynn traverse from England to Germany in tonight’s programme. Beginning with settings of WH Auden from Britten, the programme later returns to the composer with his varied song cycle On this Island which transforms from Purcellian melisma-style opening to a final feel of dance-hall tunes. Robert Schumann’s Opus 48 was published in 1844 and is based on poetry by Heine entitled Lyrisches Intermezzo.
