Here he selects other major 19th-century works, placing them alongside Jacques Ibert’s delightful 1922 collection of ten ‘stories’ and a rarely-heard transcription of César Franck by Ignaz Friedman – one of a substantial number of virtuoso pianist-composers he has championed.
