Overview

A programme centred around three musical cities, spanning a period from the exciting late-19th into the tumultuous 20th Century and interweaving music that has at times been considered both 'highbrow' and 'lowbrow'. From Lieder in romantic fashion by Berg, Strauss and Schoenberg, to the world of the Kaffeehaus and Cabaret with Weill, passing by Gardel’s wonderful tangos towards Piazzolla, who took the form from the bars of Buenos Aires into concert halls all over the world.

The first half concentrates on the Romantic period, while the second half moves into the 20th Century and the world of chanson, tango and cabaret, with Thomas Oliemans taking to the piano to accompany Eva Maria Westbroek and himself.
