Overview

Man, Woman, Child is a new duet cycle by Jonathan Dove, commissioned by Samling Institute for Young Artists to mark its 25th anniversary. The title of this spirited and tender cycle, which will be performed for the first time by Alexandra Lowe, Filipe Manu and James Baillieu, gives inspiration to a programme celebrating song and poetry in English. They are joined by Kitty Whately, William Thomas and Ian Tindale to perform works including Vaughan Williams’s 4 Last Songs, Richard Rodney Bennett’s Songs before Sleep, settings of Thomas Hardy by Gerald Finzi, Benjamin Britten folksong arrangements and songs by Roger Quilter, Elizabeth Maconchy, Margaret Bonds, Eric Coates and Ivor Novello.

This recital by six Samling Artists from across the years highlights Samling Institute’s unique contribution over the past 25 years to nurturing the brightest and the best of young classical singers and pianists nationally and internationally.
