Overview

In this programme in which Mark Padmore partners one of our finest pianists, the tenor offers a major cycle by Fauré which Marcel Proust adored at its first public performance in 1895; it sets texts by Verlaine, as does Reynaldo Hahn’s slightly earlier cycle (1887-90). Schumann’s songs are another speciality, and here he selects from the wondrous ‘year of song’ – 1840.
