Overview

With two exceptional singers in attendance, a programme centred on three leading Baroque composers. Written during the 1720s, Handel’s Latin motet is an admired example of his luscious vocal writing. Though its date is unknown, the Vivaldi cantata on an Arcadian theme seems likely to have been written in his later years. The two singers join in Bach’s motet, a parody of Pergolesi’s celebrated Stabat Mater probably made around 1745-7.
