Overview

Debussy set out to write six ‘sonatas for various instruments’ but died in 1918 having only completed three, of which this 1915 sonata for cello and piano was one. The French cellist and Russian pianist go on to perform the last of Chopin’s works published in his lifetime, a set of miniatures by Webern and the 1901 Opus 19 by Rachmaninov.
