Three composers and three poets in this programme from the young British-Russian baritone who won second prize at the 2019 Kathleen Ferrier Competition and is making a name on stage as well as the concert platform. Schubert’s settings of his close friend Johann Baptist Mayrhofer are followed by a selection of Wolf’s of Eduard Mörike, and Ravel’s of Jules Renard’s interior sketches of birds and animals, which marked a new epoch in the mélodie at their 1906 première.
