Overview
Widely regarded as classics of piano literature since their appearance in four volumes between 1985 and 2001, and recently recorded by tonight’s pianist, György Ligeti’s 18 Etudes have quickly taken their place in succession to similarly technique-expanding pieces by Chopin and Debussy. Bill Evans’s 1958 work has become one of his best known, and has also been likened to examples by those two composers.
