Overview

In 1889 Eugenie Schumann's life-partner, the mezzo-soprano Marie Fillunger, is ejected from the family home by Clara Schumann, and the couple build a new life in England. In May 1896 Eugenie (1851-1938) travels to Frankfurt to visit her dying mother.

Songs by Schumann and Brahms support a dialogue between Clara and her youngest daughter who have conflicting ideas of past events and the obligations of maternal duty.
