Overview
If Beethoven’s third Razumovsky string quartet marks Romanticism’s heroic beginnings, then Mahler’s settings of the poetry of Rückert sounded its tragic depths. Richard Strauss’s String Sextet written at the height of the Second World War - taken from his opera Capriccio - bids farewell to the past.
