Overview

The third of the Op. 33 set (1781) owes its avian nickname to the first violin’s opening melodic line, which has some of the improvisatory quality of birdsong. The third movement Menuetto of Op. 20 No. 4 is in the ‘alla zingarese’ style associated with the Roma people.
