Overview

Dvořák was highly pleased with his Op. 106 quartet (1895). ‘Hardly ever have themes flowed into my mind in such a manner. If the Dear Lord prepares meals so appetizingly, you have only to hold out your hands and enjoy them.’ Schubert’s final string quartet dates from 1826, a year of illness and uncertainty in the composer’s short life.
