21st-century works are to the fore in a programme conducted by one of our leading composers, who contributes his 2007 Bach arrangement, which joins a piece for violin and string trio written in 2011-2 by the Jordanian-German composer – a pupil of Sir George Benjamin born in 1972. 20th-century classics by leading modernists Varèse and Schoenberg are complemented by Ravel’s Mallarmé settings, performed by the Austrian soprano.
