The Argentinian pianist’s programme brings together Schumann’s 18 miniature pieces, which the composer began working on just a week after his secret engagement to Clara, with Balakirev’s Islamey which was described by music critic Harold C Schonberg as ‘at one time…considered the most difficult of all piano pieces and is still one of the knucklebusters’.
