Xiaowen Shang
This concert will be approximately 1 hour in duration, without an interval
Xiaowen Shang’s one-hour programme weaves a gorgeous tapestry of Spanish music from the 16th, 18th and 20th centuries. Frederic Mompou’s Música callada - 'Music of silence' - is a cycle of intimate, meditative miniatures, distilling flamenco rhythm and ethereal ancient melody. The programme irresistibly combines Antonio Soler’s flamboyant sonatas and the sacred composer Antonio de Cabézon with Mompou’s visionary masterpiece, to create a poetic journey.
The prize-winning Xiaowen Shang is a postgraduate pianist at the Royal Academy of Music, and released her debut recording on Linn Records last November. A busy recitalist, she has also performed at Wigmore Hall as a harpsichordist with Rachel Podger and the Nash Ensemble. Recent awards have included the Harriet Cohen Bach Prize from the Worshipful Company of Musicians and the Gold Medal from the Beethoven Piano Society of Europe.
Promoted by the Royal Academy of Music.
