Programme

Overview

St James’s, Spanish Place is a spiritual oasis in the heart of Marylebone. A close neighbour to Wigmore Hall, this beautiful church can chart its history back to the re-establishment of the Spanish Embassy in London, following the restoration of Charles II.

Performed in an ideal setting in a church completed in 1890, Fauré’s beloved choral work is preceded by music by his friends and contemporaries, sung by a group founded in 1987 by Hervé Niquet which specialises – though not exclusively – in French music of the Baroque period. The programme is taken from the group's CD published at the end of August 2024 by Alpha Classics to celebrate the occasion of the 100th anniversary of Fauré’s death.
