Judith Weir’s String Quartet No. 2, ‘The Spaniard’ is the compulsory piece for this year’s International String Quartet Competition and will be played by each of the competing quartets during the Preliminary Round. In tonight’s talk, Judith’s insights will be illustrated by excerpts from the piece recorded at the Leonkoro Quartet’s concert at Wigmore last November. The Leonkoro Quartet won the last Competition in 2022, and the work was commissioned for the quartet by Wigmore Hall and Britten Pears Arts.
