Alban Gerhardt launches this lunchtime programme with Prokofiev’s searing Sonata in C, a defiant response to his denunciation by the Soviet regime. It stands with Jules Delsart’s transcription of Franck’s Violin Sonata, a cello repertoire favourite made with the composer’s approval.
