Overview

Boris Giltburg places the Sonata ‘Quasi una fantasia’, a work of striking contrasts, in company with Beethoven’s penultimate piano sonata, remarkable for the simplicity of its themes and the complexity of their development. He opens with the witty Sonata in F, a concise foil to the burning emotions of the wild ‘Appassionata’.
