    Overview

Josquin’s Mass for Ercole I, Duke of Ferrara, a true Renaissance Man, weaves the syllables of its dedicatee’s name into the work’s fabric. Peter Phillips and The Tallis Scholars interleave its sonorous polyphony with the joyful motet Gaude virgo, mater Christi and equally fine compositions by Byrd and Palestrina.
