Wigmore Study Group: The Chamber Music of Béla Bartók
3-part Study Course
- Julian Philips
- Laura Roberts
- Students from Guildhall School of Music & Drama
Immerse yourself in the chamber music works of Béla Bartók, which though few in number contributed greatly to his stature as a composer.
Bartók's six string quartets have been compared to late Beethoven in their uncompromising inner logic and rugged beauty, and are often seen as an intimate musical diary of his life. His chamber music with piano reflects his career as a performer, from the elusive violin sonatas to the much-loved Contrasts, commissioned by Benny Goodman.
These sessions are hosted by composer Julian Philips with pianist Laura Roberts and student performers from the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
